Friction behaviour, impact strength, dimensional stability, temperature and chemical contact are evaluated together. The engineering plastic grade or metal option is determined by these combined technical requirements.

In assemblies combining plastic and metal parts, mating surfaces, connections and installation dimensions are also considered. Selection is based on the system as a whole rather than a single material property.
